My Mexican Cousin

My Mexican Cousin is a great little cafe/bar located at the corner of Sturt St and Southbank Boulevarde, just underneath the Melbourne Recital Centre. It’s a bit out of the way for someone who normally eats breakfast on the grid like me, but I’ve been hearing good reviews about the place for so long that I had to try it out.
It’s a very funky place, with the main focal piece being the above painting. I thought it was great, although it was a bit awkward for it to be up while taking my mother out to breakfast! Mental note, stick with tea houses when taking her out in the future.
Now I was tempted by their namesake dish, with poached or fried eggs, corn fritters, spinach, tomato, haloumi & kasundi however I had been craving eggs benedict all week and went with that. I was really please with the portion size, and their hollandaise sauce was excellent.
The other big surprise was the size of the brioche, which was almost big enough to be a meal by itself. It certainly made the post egg mop up easier!
Definitely worth checking out, and I heard about a super secret deal of theirs via twitter so worth following them there as well. Their website is here.
