Solarino – Melbourne restaurant

Solarino is tucked away in Howey Place, 279 Little Collins Street in Melbourne CBD. It’s a very funky and modern Italian Restaurant, with their menu projected up on a wall next to a muted black and white movie, a really cool effect. They are open from 6:30am to 10:30pm, but at this stage I can only write about their breakfast service.
Service was prompt, and we all had our coffees in front of us before we had time to blink. It’s a small thing, but when you’ve got a three year old demanding his morning ‘cino it can be a really big part of the morning.
For breakfast I ordered the scrambled eggs with avocado and maple glazed streaky bacon, and recieved the tower above. Now this may be obscure, but it reminded me of the Black Books episode where Bernard turns the store from a bookshop to a restaurant and demands all his food be served as towers. It was a remarkable presentation, and it was almost a shame to disrupt it just for the sake of eating it.
Now I’d never had maple streaked bacon before so wasn’t sure what to expect. If you’re in that position, beware because it turns out the sweetness makes the bacon feel extra salty and therefore even better. That combined with Dan favourites avocado and eggs made this a special breakfast.
Overall it’s a very pleasant laneway restaurant that I need to return to for a dinner experience. Once that happens I’ll be sure to update this post further. In the meantime, their website is here.
