Town Hall Hotel – North Melbourne Parmas

Happy Parma Tuesday! I thought I’d share one of my favourite chicken parma spots, the Town Hall Hotel in North Richmond, at 33 Errol St North Melbourne. It’s a good old fashioned Aussie pub with good old fashioned pub food.
Now I’m not going to lie, when I first sat down to write this post I was going to make a banjo joke. This place looks like you’ve travelled back in time and place to a spot where hostile stares were how people said hello and the banjo would stop playing every time a stranger walked in. The truth, however, is that the staff are absolutely lovely, the music is coming from a jukebox and the crowd are just regular punters.
I was, however, a little perturbed at having about a dozen images of Jesus watching me eat.
I will give special mention to the bread. It was thick, warm and sweet, almost like banana bread. I know that sounds weird, especially for a starter, but it was delicious and stuck in my mind as worth looking forward to.
Now the Townie is pretty well known for its parmas, and there is a good reason for it: they’re huge and tasty. They’re also thin, which is how I prefer my parmas. My thinking is if you can’t get a little bit of the topping with each bite of a parma, you’re not doing it right. The chips are thick and salty, and the salad has a tonne of raw onion as required by pub law.
It’s a great parma spot, but the best part is that it’s just across the road from The Comic Lounge and a great place to start a comedy date night.
