Boat Builders Yard

The Boatbuilders Yard is located at 23 South Wharf Promenade, South Wharf, right next to Polly Woodside. I often refer to this place as the friendliest venue in Melbourne, not just for its staff but also for little extras like having an umbrella stand full of loaner umbrellas for any punters caught out.
It’s a huge venue, with a big open space for kids to run around. Being so close to the bay means there’s almost always a cool breeze coming through which is perfect for summer but can mean it gets a bit chilly on winter afternoons, so be warned.
I’d have to describe the food as posh bar. It is quite possibly the only bar that I like without chicken parma on the menu, but the selection on offer more than makes up for it. After my boat trip over the weekend we settled in for a lunch of meatballs, arancini balls and croquettes with chips on the side, and each one was just what I needed.
My personal favourite from that selection were the arancini. They were the best I’ve had so far this year, which admittedly isn’t difficult. They also get the thumbs up from our new local superhero Melbourne Man, in what was their “favourite review ever“. I’m a little jealous
