Bang Pop is the newly renovated and just-about-to-open replacement for The Sharing House at 35 South Wharf Promenade, South wharf. I was lucky enough to get a spot to their soft opening last Friday, and had a really great first impression of our newest restaurant.
First off, it’s very pretty. The outside are lined with the above vintage bikes, and the beloved Lego Bar from Sharing House has remained. The seating is a lot more communal, with each table seating up to 12 in a row. There were only about 30 odd punters there for this particular soft opening, but I can imagine it’s going to get loud and rowdy.
The menu is street-food Thai, with a lot of fish and very spicy. We had a set menu, however due t my seafood allergy I had to miss out on trying out some of their options. The standout at this stage seems to be their grilled pork neck. Their aim is to be affordable and casual, and glancing over their offerings they’re definitely on the way.
Service was friendly and informative, but had a couple of teething problems. It was nothing major, just one time getting a beer instead of a wine and another where a beer never arrived. Both rectified quickly and easily and with no problems.
In full disclosure, the soft opening I went to was free, however there are still a couple more nights where you can attend a soft opening before their official opening this Friday 15 March. These soft openings are on tonight, tomorrow night and Thursday from 6pm, with 25% off all food and drink. No website just yet, but they’re on Facebook here.
